California Democrat Nancy Pelosi will return to the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, now that Democrats have regained control of the chamber, but there is at least one New York Democrat who felt someone else deserved a shot.
Freshman Rep. Anthony Brindisi (D - NY22) gave his support to former Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday. Congressman Brindisi, who defeated Claudia Tenney in November, told Capital Tonight's Liz Benjamin on Wednesday that he wouldn't support Pelosi for speaker.
"It's something that I had said during the campaign," Brindisi said. "It's a pledge I made and a pledge I intend to keep [Thursday]. ... You can vote for anyone. You don't have to be a member of Congress to be the Speaker of the House."
Brindisi is the second New York politician in as many days to show support to the former Senator and VP; Governor Andrew Cuomo, in a radio interview Wednesday, said Biden has the experience and the “best case” among the crowded field of potential Democratic candidates for president.
