The race for the 22nd Congressional District is a statistical dead heat, according to our Spectrum News/Siena poll released Wednesday evening.

With a little more than two months left before election day, 46 percent of voters prefer Democrat Anthony Brindisi while 44 percent are backing Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, a Republican.

Tenney, who is in her first term, won the district by 5 percent in a three-way race in 2016.

The Spectrum News/Siena poll showed almost a quarter of Republicans said they'd vote for Brindisi.

Depsite voters favoring the Democratic challeger slightly more, 53 percent of people wanted to see Republicans stay in control of the House after the election, and 51 percent approved of President Donald Trump.

The poll, conducted August 20-26 has a margin of error of +/-4.8 percent
