Former Vice President Joe Biden should be out on the trail more often to make his case to voters, Democratic Rep. Anthony Brindisi told Alan Chartock in a WAMC interview.

"I think the vice president has got to get out there a little more," Brindisi said. "He's got to get on the trail. The president is out there everyday, for better or worse, talking on issues."

Biden should be focusing on issues like health care and prescription as well as "how you're going to heal the divisions" in the country, Brindisi said.

Biden's campaign in recent days has signaled it will be entering a new phase of public appearances. The Democratic presidential nominee gave an in-person address in Pittsburgh, denouncing civil unrest in cities amid protests over police killings of Black people as well as President Donald Trump's rhetoric.

Brindisi is running for a second term in the 22nd Congressional District, a House seat that stretchs from the Mohawk Valley to the Southern Tier region. He will face Republican former Rep. Claudia Tenney, who he unseated in 2018.

Trump handily won the House district in 2016 and campaigned for Tenney's re-election two years ago.

Brindisi said the focus for Biden should be on "kitchen table" issues facing voters.

"Whether it's at the local level running for school board or running for Congress or running for president, you've got to be out in the community and across the country giving people a reason to want to vote for you," he said.
