New York's coronavirus infection rate remains largely flat as the virus continues to spread in other areas of the country, Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Wednesday.

Cuomo said in a conference call nearly 70,000 test results in the last day found a positive rate of 1.04 percent, or 705 positive cases. The state's COVID positive rate has been largely flat in recent weeks.

Hospitalizations are down slightly to 714 patients while nine people have died in the last 24 hours from COVID-19.

Testing in other areas of the country has seen an increasingly long turnaround times for test results. Cuomo administration officials on Wednesday said that was not the case for tests that are conducted by state laboratories.

Melissa DeRosa, the secretary to the governor and a top aide, said the average lag time for results at state labs is less than two days.

"We feel comfortable we're looking at the most current data," she said.

Cuomo, however, warned that gains can be wiped away by the virus returning to New York from states with currently high infection rates.

"To say New York will be fine when you see the increases in Florida, Texas, Arizona, California, we know that's not the case," he said.
