Republican Assembly Member Brian Kolb won't see re-election, he announced Thursday in a statement, a development that came a month and a half after he was charged with drunk driving on New Year's Eve.
The arrest led to Kolb stepping down from his minority leader post in the state Assembly, a job he had held for a decade. Republican lawmakers voted last month to replace him with Assembly Member Will Barclay in the top post.
Kolb crashed his state-owned vehicle on December 31. Court records later revealed he had a 0.16 blood alcohol content at the time.
"I know that there are other avenues for me to pursue, future work to be done, and I have every intention of being an active member of the community and state that I love," Kolb said in a statement.
Kolb was first elected in 2000 to the 129th Assembly district. He currently represents the 131st Assembly district which covers all of Ontario County and a portion of Seneca County.
"It has been a tremendous privilege, both personally and professionally, to have served the people of the Finger Lakes Region for the past two decades," Kolb said. "I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt there is no higher honor than to have had the support of the men, women and families who call this area home."
