A coalition of 28 groups — including prominent and political active labor unions — released a letter to state officials on Wednesday urging them to bring automatic voter registration over the goal line at the Capitol.

The letter comes after the state Senate approved a version of the automatic voter registration bill earlier this year. The Assembly is yet to take up the legislation.

Signing onto the letter included the Working Families Party, 32BJ, Hotel Trades Council, NYCLU, the national Indivisible Project, Make the Road and Empire State Indivisible.

"Now is the time for New York to modernize its antiquated voter registration system," the letter states. "By enacting AVR legislation, you will be bolstering the security and accuracy of New York’s voter rolls, while maximizing voter registration in the Empire State. Count on us to support your efforts in every possible way to get this legislation enacted into law."

The measure is meant to register more voters by having them affirmatively "opt out" of registering.
