The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has officially filed suit against the International Joint Commission.
It's blaming the agency, which manages the level of Lake Ontario, for the disastrous flooding along the lake's shoreline in 2017 and 2019.
Governor Cuomo announced plans to sue the IJC during a stop in Irondequoit last week. Cuomo pointed the finger directly at the commission's Plan 2014, which dictates how much water is released from the lake and when.
The lawsuit alleges that while the IJC acknowledged that Plan 2014 would cause some erosion and flooding, it assured the public that damage would be minimal.
The IJC has yet to respond to the suit.
