Teams are donning gloves and preparing to put their strength to the test at the Inaugural Coca-Cola Bottling of Hawaii Truck Pull & Spring Fest to benefit Special Olympics Hawaii on Saturday, April 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ka Makana Aliʻi.
The challenge? Pull a 40,000-pound Coca-Cola truck 30 feet in the fastest time possible.
Over 20 teams of eight have signed up to give it their best effort and there is still time to register your team to give it a go. Local media personalities have also signed up to take the challenge in the Celebrity Exhibition Truck Pull.
In addition to cheering on the competing teams, the public can look forward to a fun family Spring Fest offering up food, family-friendly activities, live entertainment, first responder vehicle displays, plus booths showcasing local crafts and products.
Live entertainment includes performances by Ryugen Taiko, Halau ʻO Nāpualaʻīkauikaʻiu and the Hoʻokele Dance Team & Musical Theatre Group. Talented artists from Maioho Music Studio and dancers from Asian Lion Dance Team and Huakaʻi Polynesia will also perform.
“The Truck Pull & Spring Fest is more than just a competition — it’s a celebration of community, strength and support,” said Special Olympics Hawaii Director of Development Tracey Bender in a release. “This event brings people together to ‘pull’ for Special Olympics Hawaii athletes, just as our athletes pull through challenges with determination and heart.
“Whether you’re joining the competition or cheering from the sidelines, you’re helping to uplift our athletes while also supporting the many local businesses that have come out to be part of this special day,” Bender said.
The event is free with all the fun taking place in the parking lot between California Pizza Kitchen and ʻŌlino Theater.
