U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, has launched an online resource guide to assist immigrants, veterans, LGBTQ+ individuals and others who may be impacted by recent changes to federal programs and policies implemented under the new Trump administration.
“Recent changes to federal policies are having real impacts to federal workers and some of the most vulnerable people in our communities,” Schatz said. “Whether you’re a federal worker who got fired from your job for no reason or an immigrant who wants to know what your rights are, help is available. I encourage everyone to explore this guide, find resources that may be helpful to you, and share your stories.”
On the site, federal workers who believe they are being targeted for an illegal or improper reason are advised to: document everything, seek legal advice (either from an attorney who specializes in federal employee law or their union) and file a complaint.
The site includes links to resources for federal workers, including an explanation of rights, a union tracker and the state’s new Operation Hire Hawaii initiative to link fired federal workers with state employment opportunities.
It also includes resource links for immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community and veterans, as well as an area to which whistleblower complaints can be submitted.
U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono also has a resource page for federal employees with guidance and referrals for filing complaints and applying for unemployment insurance, as well as “share you story” area.
U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda is also tracking and reviewing personal accounts from federal employees via her official website.
Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Ed Case’s latest e-newsletter is largely devoted to addressing constituent concerns over the Trump administration’s latest actions. It includes links to recordings on recent town hall meetings, a list and summarization of Trump’s executive orders and a tracker for Trump-related court cases.
