In its first two months, congestion pricing has been doing what it was intended to do, according to a new report: lighten up traffic and speed up commute times for drivers.
The report from the Regional Plan Association, a nonprofit civic organization, found commuters are saving more than 20 minutes coming through the Lincoln Tunnel.
According to the MTA, average trip times in January were down 17% through the Lincoln Tunnel and 48% through the Holland Tunnel.
For Queens and Long Island commuters, the average commute time is down about 13 minutes, the report shows. Meanwhile, Brooklyn and Staten Island commuters are saving roughly seven minutes.
The report found the total value of time savings for the greater regional economy is between $500 million and $1.3 billion.
The report comes nearly a month after the Trump administration pulled federal approval for the five borough’s congestion pricing program.
The MTA filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Transportation that same day, claiming its move to cancel the program came "in open disregard of a host of federal statutes and regulations."
