There’s still time to check out the Voices and Votes Exhibition at the Munson Art Museum in Utica. Munson is one of 12 museums across the state to be chosen for this exhibition.
“This show is really about the progress of democracy throughout American History, from its very beginnings, to the present day really,” said Stephen Harrison, the director and chief curator for Munson Museum of Art.
The Voices and Votes Exhibition was organized by the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Munson is one of 12 museums in the state to host this exhibition.
“To really spread the knowledge and the objects and the information that the Smithsonian keeps in trust for all of us around the state,” said Harrison.
Harrison says the exhibition can be experienced from any angle, any perspective.
“It’s a show really for all ages," said Harrison. "There are aspects of our American History that are interesting for younger people, perhaps the early days of the country. Then, I think a lot of adults will recognize not only the presidents but the times they were president in."
There are various themes throughout the exhibition, from marginalized people, and protests, to the struggle for voting rights and equal participation in our democracy.
“Great moments when our country has re-evaluated our vote and our voice and changed the Constitution to allow those who were kept out to be included once again,” said Harrison.
Voices and Votes is also celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The exhibition will be on display until Friday, Dec. 13.
