Older adults in New York can now experience travel without getting on an airplane.

New York State’s Office of the Aging partners with a company called Discover Live, which offers live virtual tours of different countries around the globe.

"This is live and it's interactive, and if you don't speak English, there's translation services. But what they'll do is they'll interact with people live," said Office for the Aging Director Greg Olsen. "There's a professional tour guide on the other end that knows the location and is able to point out cultural things [and] buildings."

Mary Going said she has done several of the tours.

"My daughter lives over there in Ireland, so I get to visit places that I know she has visited by doing this one," Going said.

New York funds the program in 51 locations, like senior centers, throughout the state and is in the process of expanding to 51 more.
