ROCHESTER, N.Y. — As we reach midpoint to near peak across the region during the fall season, New York's parade of spectacular fall foliage will "leaf" you smiling.

What You Need To Know

  • The sixth 2024 I LOVE NY Fall Foliage Report has been released

  • Reports are obtained from volunteer field observers and reflect expected color conditions for the coming weekend

  • As millions of visitors travel to see the fall foliage, Bristol Mountain has reached nearly six thousand visitors just this weekend alone

  • Peak foliage will be found in parts of all nine Upstate New York regions this weekend, as it makes its way out of the upper elevations of the Adirondacks and Catskills

  • Most upstate foliage will range from midpoint to near-peak, while leaves on Long Island will mostly be at midpoint of change and most of New York City will still be in the early stages of transition

It’s that time of year again, where splashes of red, yellow and orange create some of the most breathtaking views.

And thanks to size and geography, New York state has the longest foliage season of any state across the country.

“Any given weekend between September and November, there's somewhere just a short car ride away in New York state where the leaves are turning beautiful,” New York State Division of Tourism Executive Director Ross Levi said. “Vibrant colors are reds and yellows and oranges and so many ways to get out and enjoy that beautiful foliage that we have.”

I LOVE NY, the state’s tourism website, published its sixth fall foliage reports on where to find autumn's best colors throughout the week.

“I love New York has had a dedicated team of foliage watchers, over 85 of them across New York state that every week are letting us know in their regions what's happening with the foliage is a near peak,” Levi said. “At peak, what sort of colors they're seeing, how vibrant those colors are. And from that, we are able to put together a map.”

As the region enjoys one of the last chances to do some leaf peeping this year, several spots enjoying the best colors and all of nature’s beauty have brought much attention to areas across upstate New York, like here in Bristol mountain.

“Tourism is vital to New York's economic health,” Levi said. “We're New York's second-largest private industry, responsible for one in 10 jobs. We save every household over 1,400 dollars they otherwise would be paying in taxes. So tourism is big business as well as being a wonderful experience for people. And fall is a real core tourism season for New York state.”

With most areas seeing midpoint of change to near-peak, this has given an opportunity for all visitors to experience a variety of activities.

And as millions of visitors travel to see the fall foliage, Bristol Mountain has reached nearly 6,000 visitors just this weekend alone.

“A couple of years ago, I think three years ago, when I was pregnant with him, his dad and I came here and we did the lift and that was lovely,” visitor Chloe Bohn said. “So I wanted to come back [and] bring the kids.”

It makes this weekend the perfect time for an unbe’leaf’able view.
