Women politicians in New York have broken through glass ceilings multiple times, including for governor when Kathy Hochul ascended to the state’s highest office in August of 2021. 

But even before that, Westchester’s Andrea Stewart-Cousins broke both gender and racial barriers to become the first Black woman to serve as majority leader of the New York State Senate. 

She spoke with Capital Tonight’s Susan Arbetter about what it would mean to her if Vice President Kamala Harris broke the country’s highest glass ceiling.
