Artificial intelligence isn’t the future – it’s here now and being used by New York state government.
According to Senator Kristen Gonzalez, chair of the Senate Internet and Technology Committee, state agencies have been using A.I. to do a variety of tasks, from processing applications to reviewing tax returns.
This past session, the state Legislature passed Gonzalez’s bill, which, if signed by the governor, would provide assessment, transparency and oversight of automated decision-making systems used for high-stakes decisions by state agencies.
Gonzalez and others have dubbed the bill “the LOADinG Act,” which stands for Legislative Oversight of Automated Decision-making in Government.
She discussed the legislation with Capital Tonight host Susan Arbetter.
