When Katie Pascale takes the field for UAlbany women’s lacrosse, she’s practically a point guard for the Great Danes.

“I love the unselfish atmosphere that is UAlbany lacrosse,” Pascale said.

The senior midfielder is always threading the needle to find the open player. In just three seasons, Pascale became the program’s all-time assists and points leader.

“You do it for the people behind you and the people around you,” she said.

Being a playmaker is something Pascale has always done going up in Central New York. She dominated not only in lacrosse for Baldwinsville, but also in soccer and basketball.

“I was a pretty good soccer player and basketball player,” Pascale said. “But there was just something special about lacrosse for me.”

Pascale was introduced to the game when her mother enrolled her in a camp at 5-years-old. When it came to college, it was the proximity to home and the coaching staff that drew her to UAlbany.

“It was tough with COVID because I didn’t have a senior year in high school,” she said. “But I had really good upperclassmen and I’ve always looked up to the coaches.”

The stability and the culture has allowed Pascale to thrive with the Great Danes. UAlbany won the America East title last year, and reaching the second round of the NCAA tournament. It’s something Pascale hopes to build on her senior year.

“We always had seniors to lean on and great captains, and I want to be a great captain and senior for our freshmen, sophomores, and juniors,” she said.
