Health care costs can be a major burden on many Americans. A recent survey from The Economist and YouGov found a third of lower-income people skipped out on filling a prescription because of the price.

Dr. Jenny Yu, the chief health officer of Optum Perks, joined Robert Guaderrama to discuss the issue.

Yu shares the latest information revealed from a new survey that found Americans aren’t checking prescription prices. Yu says even those who are checking are not finding the right information on costs and discounts that might be available to them. She says this “sticker shock” could lead to those who are on a fixed income to not being able to fill a particular prescription.

“Similar to other things, such as a promotional code, you’re not realizing that there is a wide variety of drug prices across different pharmacies and relators,” Yu said. “And not knowing that, you’re not getting that information available to you in terms of saving those discounts. And at this point, with inflation, every dollar counts and it adds up in terms of how many medications you have to take.”
