Fans we spoke with said they believe a big reason why SU was chosen for the Pinstripe Bowl was because of their ability to bring fans to New York City, and that they're happy the Orange is getting an opportunity to play in a bowl game at all.

The Orange are expected to get to the city about three to four days before their game. In the past, the team rang the the New York Stock Exchange bell and visited youth football teams while downstate.

At Tully's Sunday night, excited fans told Spectrum News 1 that in mid-October they thought SU had a great chance to get to a major bowl game.  With some injuries and some tough losses, they're just happy to be able to cap off the season with this opportunity. Some are happy the game is in close proximity while others say the season has been fun.

"The 6-0 start was huge and I work in the restaurant business and it brought people out, what feels like the first time since the pandemic happened in Syracuse and seeing sports being able to have that effect in this area was just awesome," said Scott Coan, SU football fan.

"I am so glad it's going to be in New York City because they're going to get a lot of fans there and it's going to be loud like Syracuse," said SU football fan Deborah Pichette.

Most fans we spoke to say they plan to watch the game here in Central New York at home or maybe out a restaurant. In the two Pinstripe Bowls SU played, the crowd was pro-Orange.

SU played in the inaugural Pinstripe Bowl in 2010 topping Kansas State 36-34. The Orange returned to the Bronx two years later in 2012 and they defeated West Virginia 38-14.

SU's opponent this year is Minnesota. That's a school the Orange played in 2013 in the Texas Bowl. The Orange won that game 21 to 17.

Remember kickoff for the Pinstripe Bowl is set for Thursday, Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. That game will be shown on ESPN.
