Located at the eastern end of Lake Ontario, people in Oswego County were already dealing with shoveable snow on Thursday afternoon.

A week ago, it was 70-degree weather and sunny. On Thursday, residents were pulling out the winter gear and snow blowers. But many said it’s really no surprise when you live in Central New York.

"I filled up my gas can about a week ago to mow my lawn," Oswego County resident Gary Gelina said with a chuckle.

How long did it take for him to remove snow from his driveway?

"The first swipe coming up the middle was about 20 minutes to get from the garage to the road because it’s so heavy," he said. "This is about an hour's worth of work."

Gelina said having a snow blower was helpful, and now he could now enjoy the snow day with his dog.

Meanwhile, another Oswego County resident did not have the best of luck with the early snow. Nate Erdmann said he lost power in his home.

"I was under five blankets because it was cold in there," he said. "I had to come to work early because I know they have the generators on here."

Erdmann works at a local gas station. He said what is normally a quick drive in was longer due to the weather, but after living in New York for almost 20 years, he said nothing surprises him anymore when it comes to the weather.

"It’s just luck of the draw anymore," Erdmann said. "It’s nothing crazy. It is what it is. You live in upstate New York. You know what to expect."
