Dirt Car Racing fans from across the country are in Oswego this week for one of the sports biggest events. Super Dirt Week 50 is expected to attract more than 35,000 racing fans to Oswego Speedway through Sunday.
About 900 campers are expected to move in near the Speedway this week and there are already quite a few that have made their way into town.
Racing will really start to pick up here on Thursday after a few events in Weedsport and Brewerton on Tuesday and Wednesday. Oswego welcomes this event with open arms every year while the city will host a parade on Wednesday at noon.
From the 358 Modifieds and Sportsmen divisions to the Pro Stocks, you can see the best cars and drivers the sport has to offer. The week will finish up with the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 championship on Sunday.
Organizers said it's impressive to see where people will come from for this.
"I believe it's 17 states and four countries that people come from. All over. I mean this is a destination event. People schedule this all year long. This is where they meet up with friends once a year. This is where they celebrate what they enjoy and that's dirt car racing," said Super Dirt Week Executive Director of Events Jeff Hachmann.
In addition to all the racing, there are several other events taking place.
There was a big charity golf tournament on Monday, a corn hole tournament Tuesday, and a pancake breakfast on Wednesday.
