Last Thursday was the first “Women in Sports Night” for the Syracuse Mets, so Sarah Domin, a West Genesee baseball player, decided to go all in.

“I thought doing the jobs would be cool to show all the little girls they can do that," Domin said.

She is a junior co-captain for “Baseball for All,” a nonprofit that creates opportunities for girls to play, coach and lead in the sport. She’s run clinics in the past, but this year for her community project, she went a different route.

“This year, I wanted to focus on the jobs in baseball and not playing baseball," Domin said.

There are a lot of jobs, so she did nine of them in nine innings.

What You Need To Know

  • Sarah Domin is a freshman at West Genesee High School

  • She is the first female in school history to play for the baseball team

  • She is a junior co-captain of "Baseball for All," a non-profit that creates opportunities for girls to play, coach and lead in the sport

  • For her community project this year, she decided to do nine jobs in nine innings for the S-Mets

“I’m having a blast, oh, my gosh," Domin said.

She made stops with concessions, the radio booth, ran the game clock and even took over the mic. She knows the sport inside and out. One of her goals is to play for the U.S. women’s national team.

“I’ve been invited to multiple events in Florida for the best 60 female baseball players in the country," Domin said.

It’s no secret. There has always been a gender problem in baseball, but women are breaking barriers.

Rachel Balkovec is the first female manager of an Major League Baseball-affiliated team. Kim Ng is the first female GM of a MLB team and is the highest-ranking female executive.

Those are just a couple of examples.
