The new school year is right around the corner and many parents have already started their back to school shopping. With a difficult economy, some may be looking to save a few bucks on clothing and accessories. That's why it's a good time to consider supporting Salvation Army thrift stores.
At the Family Store on Erie Boulevard in Syracuse, you can find everything from t-shirts and jeans to shoes and backpacks.
Proceeds from sales made at numerous Salvation Army stores in Central New York go toward supporting the Adult Rehabilitation Center. That's a 100-bed facility where many are recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.
"Shopping at our stores does help stretch the budget, especially in today's economy. And, along with stretching the budget you also get a chance to do something tangible for people in need. Help reunite families back together, and get people back where they need to be in their life," said Syracuse Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center Business Manager Neil Murphy.
You're always encouraged to put together some gently used items or clothes that your child may have outgrown and make a donation to the Salvation Army. Murphy said these stores wouldn't be able to offer such a vast selection without the generosity of the community.
He also told us the local stores have seen an influx of shoppers this summer. He said that can most certainly be attributed to the higher cost of living. Any purchases made at stores made in Syracuse, Liverpool, Chittenango, Rome, Auburn, Fulton, Ilion, and Watertown will support the rehab center.
