June 1 is the start of National CPR and AED Awareness week.
Experts at American Medical Response in Syracuse said knowing the proper steps of CPR or using an automated external defibrillator can save someone you love.
Instructors at AMR conduct regular CPR classes and training sessions. Instruction includes the hands-only CPR system which can help keep someone alive until help arrives.
"CPR is so important because survival from out of hospital cardiac arrest nationally is about 10%, but we know that we can raise the survival rates by having somebody do CPR early and also apply a defibrillator early," said American Medical Response Paramedic and Instructor Susie Burnett.
Burnett said high quality chest compressions and early defibrillation are the two most important things in saving someone's life. She said AMR offers regular classes and off-site instruction.
