More changes are coming to the Syracuse Police Department following a major shakeup that recently saw former Chief Kenton Buckner resign and quickly replaced by longtime veteran Joe Cecile.

Syracuse officials announced Tuesday that Deputy Chief Richard Shoff was promoted to first deputy chief.

Shoff has served as a Syracuse Police Department officer for 35 years, and oversees a wide range of public safety functions. Prior to that, he was responsible for community policing citywide, where he addressed quality of life issues, as well as neighborhood safety.

The other promotion was for Captain Julie Shulsky, who becomes deputy chief.

Shulsky joined the department in 2006 and worked in a variety of patrol divisions for over 13 years, most recently as commanding officer of the training division.

In 2013, she became the first female canine officer in the department.
