Back in 2016, in a game at the Carrier Dome against Louisville, Kayla Treanor put in her 251st goal to become the all-time goal scoring leader in SU program history.
She finished her career with 260 goals.
On Tuesday night at the Dome, that six-year record was broken by Emily Hawryschuk as Treanor stood on the sidelines as a head coach.
“I think for Emily, it’s awesome that she was inspired by a group of players that were amazing attackers, and that she was able to fulfill that herself and was able to be one of these next-level attackers," Treanor said. "She’s a huge reason why this place is called ‘Attacker U.’ She’s certainly left her legacy here.”
What You Need To Know
- Kayla Treanor scored 260 goals during her time in Orange, which was the most goals scored in SU women's lax history
- Coming into Tuesday, Emily Hawryschuk needed three goals to break that record
- Hawryschuk notched those three goals in the second quarter, and added one more in the second half
On Tuesday night in the second quarter, Hawryschuk notched three goals to tie and break Treanor’s record. It was a special moment for the Attack after sitting out for nearly the entire season with a knee injury in 2021.
“It’s crazy. It’s very surreal," Hawryschuk said. "I’m very honest in saying when I was in high school, I used to watch Kayla Treanor highlights on YouTube before going out to play games. I spent so many years idolizing her, and I still idolize her, watching her and the player that she is. I’m really thankful to have her as my coach now.”
Hawryschuk finished with four goals and fourth-ranked SU finished with a 18-11 win over Albany. There's no telling how many more goals the Victor native will score.
SU has one game left in the regular season, plus the ACC tournament, which will be followed by the NCAA tournament.
