Gov. Kathy Hochul is currently governing the state without a lieutenant governor. Brian Benjamin resigned earlier this week following his arrest in connection with a campaign finance scheme.

The former lieutenant governor is facing a number of charges, including bribery and falsification of records.

Gov. Hochul accepted Benjamin's resignation quickly after his indictment was made public.

She released a statement saying New Yorkers deserve absolute confidence in their government. She also says it’s clear to both her and Benjamin he could not carry out his responsibilities while the legal process plays out.
