In just under three weeks a few thousand runners will participate in the Mountain Goat Run in Syracuse. Training runs have helped prepare runners for the 10 mile route while a few more sessions are scheduled if you're considering the challenging race.

The 44th Mountain Goat will take place on May 1, so if you've been running out there you may want to consider this. For the next two Saturdays, runners can sign up and join about 100 others to run part or all of the Mountain Goat course.

Organizers said the race has success thanks to the strong Syracuse running community and the neighborhoods that support it. Despite some rigorous hills, you'll find a ton of crowd support along the 10 mile route in areas like Strathmore and the SU Hil.

If you don't think you can do all 10 miles you can find a partner and sign up for the two-person relay to do 5 miles each. Meanwhile, organizers said coming out to the training runs each of the next two Saturdays will really give you a good idea of what to expect.

"It's something that everyone can partake in. And, I think that, that's what the Mountain Goat sustains in our community. That running idea. If that's all you can do is the training runs, then come and do those, all you can do is the relay, come and do that. You're going to feel such a sense of accomplishment. Having fought through the winter, and accomplish this 10 mile course," said Mountain Goat Run Foundation President Rosemarie Nelson.

If you're interested in the training runs they will start each of the next two Saturdays at the MOST at 8:00 am. You can run most or all of the Mountain Goat course to get ready for those hills. And finally with the better weather ahead it's a great time for beginners to get outside or maybe doing the Mountain Goat is in your future.

If you'd like to register for the 10-miler or 5 mile two-person relay you can register at MountainGoatRun.org. And if running the race isn't for you, you can also register to volunteer and help out the race committee on race day. Again, the race is set for Sunday, May 1 at 9:15 a.m.
