Pretty soon people will be flooding into the room where it happened. The touring production of Hamilton is coming to the Landmark Theatre. Tickets have been on sale for the Syracuse run for months. The curtain rises on the first night of the two-week run tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Audiences can expect a night of fun, great music and the story of America’s forgotten founding father; Alexander Hamilton. The pop-rap musical chronicles his life from birth; through immigrating to the U.S., his life in politics, to his untimely death. This is the first time Hamilton will be coming to the Salt City. The tour was supposed to stop through last year, but was delayed because of the pandemic. There’s been lots of physical preparation for the show to come through.
“The enthusiasm for this show is pretty extraordinary. We’ve has some recent improvements to the theatre, our seat replacement, our marquee replacement which is 95% done, all of these things have been in preparation for this show coming through," said Mike Intaglietta, executive director of the Landmark Theatre.
They’ve also been preparing backstage for the show’s many technical requirements, creating some additional office space for the tour and selling tickets for the last three months.
“Certain shows that you really kind of set your calendar around and Hamilton is one of them. For us this has been a very very long time coming. We were originally supposed to have them last year but the pandemic derailed that scheduling. So we’re so glad to have them now," said Intaglietta.
If you’ve been to other shows at the Landmark this season, you’re used to needing your ID and vaccine card, or a negative COVID test. That won’t be required for entry anymore. You also won’t be needing a mask, unless you’re sitting in the front two rows. But masks are still strongly recommended. Intaglietta said the change in mask and vaccine rules stem from reduced cases and hospitalizations, as well as changes in state, county, and CDC guidance.
There’s still plenty of time left to buy tickets for Hamilton. You can call the Landmark box office, or head to Ticketmaster.com. Doors open up an hour before, so be sure to show up early so you don’t miss a second of the show. Intaglietta says around 2,600 people have to make their way through the door before the opening number. Hamilton will be in town until Sunday, March 27.
