New state of the art technology is coming to the Museum of Science and Technology in Syracuse.

The new National Grid ExploraDome, which will include a planetarium and theatre, is set to open early next month. This new venue replaces the museum's IMAX theatre.

Officials at the MOST said they want to give students the best learning experience possible when it comes to getting a STEM education.

The new planetarium and theatre is a result of a $2.6 million capital campaign that started last year. Officials announced that National Grid is the main sponsor last week.

The old IMAX is getting a complete makeover with updated screens, seating and surround sound. Guests will be able to experience everything from space exploration to high-tech documentaries.

You'll even get to do things like see what the sky will look like on your 100th birthday.

"We'll have the documentaries that everyone has come to know from the museum but now we're also going to have planetarium shows.  We can also do all kinds of fun stuff, create our own science shows and even do feature films," said MOST President Lauren Kochian.

Crews are putting the finishing touches on the new National Grid ExploraDome with new carpet, paint and the installation of a concession stand. It is set to open April 9.

The MOST is currently training their education staff on how to best use the new facility so they can allow visitors to get the best experience possible.

The new National Grid ExploraDome will also feature a laser illuminated, high resolution projection system.

The opening planetarium show will be Dark Universe while the opening documentary will be Dinosaurs of Anarctica.
