It's been years in the making, but a plan to reconfigure schools inside the Liverpool Central School District is one step closer to becoming a reality.
The proposed “Education 2020 Plan” was unanimously approved Monday night during a board meeting.
The plan means each quadrant of the district would have its own kindergarten through grade 2 school, one for grades 3 through 5 and another for 6th to 8th grade.
Then students throughout the district would be back under one roof for high school starting at 9th grade.
Taking care of one of the largest school districts in New York State has been a task, but Superintendent Mark Potter and company set out to essentially re-map the schools in the district.
"Could we structure the district differently? It would make more sense, so we decided at that point, let's take a look at a restructuring our reconfiguration of grades," said Potter.
The vote Monday night is a requirement of the state department of education before more changes go into effect in the fall.
Potter and the district say they're more than doing their part to make sure students and parents alike know exactly where to go come the 2022-23 academic year.
