For many, the winter storm that arrived across Central New York reinforced Monday's theme of answering the call from those in need.

Members of People First Americorps, along with volunteers, assembled at the Utica Salvation Army on Monday to collect coats, hats and gloves for their winter clothing giveaway.

The event, part of the group's Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, aims to make communities more equitable.

"Today, we are celebrating the legacy and activism of Martin Luther King by putting his words into action, here in Utica," said John Furman, director of programs for People First Americorps.

The winter clothing giveaway event ended successfully.

Americorps is a program in which you can dedicate a year of service to the nation.
