Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh was sworn in for a second term on Thursday, nearly two months after the independent won re-election by defeating Democrat Khalid Bey and Republican Janet Burman.
Walsh noted the much smaller crowd at his second inauguration event due to the pandemic.
He reflected on the changes the world has experienced over the last four years, reminding others that at the beginning of his first term, he was focused on concentrated poverty and the city budget.
But in looking into the future, he expressed optimism in initiatives such as the Interstate 81 community grid project.
"I ask you in reaffirming our commitment to a vision that once seemed idealistic and so far off, but actually, is within our grasp. Syracuse will be a growing city that embraces diversity and creates opportunity for all," Walsh said.
Also sworn in Thursday was Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens.
