Multiple fire crews battled a blaze at the Townhouse East Apartments on Pleasant Streeet in Manlius Wednesday morning.
Officials say crews were called to the complex shortly after 5 a.m. and took nearly an hour and a half to put out. Luckily, there was nobody inside the apartment where the fire started and no other injuries have been reported.
However, the fire did spread to about three or four surrounding buildings, damaging fifteen apartments.
"It makes me feel really bad, like this is the worst day of my life," said one resident at the building who has lived there for 20 years. "On the other hand, I know God will take care of us and I am relying on him for that, and praying and asking for prayers. I think that will help a lot. If we can all just keep it together, we will somehow get through this."
"One of our patrol units was actually right down the street on another complaint, smelled smoke, saw something, the call came in and he was right here banging on doors and trying to get everybody evacuated, so that worked out really well," said Sergeant Ken Hatter of the Manlius Police Department.
The Red Cross is helping those who have been displaced, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
