When you’re going through cancer treatment, there’s a lot of priorities. One thing that falls to the backburner, is housecleaning.

“I was diagnosed in January with something called triple negative breast cancer, stage 2b," said Debra Lazinsky. “I’ve been going through chemotherapy treatments, I have two children, it’s hard for me to keep up with everything. The weeks that I have chemotherapy, I’m really not productive for about seven or eight days.”

With not much time or energy to clean, that’s where Rebecca steps in. Usually she charges a fee to clean homes, but today she’s happy to do it for free.

“It’s one less thing they have to worry about," said Rebecca Gunningsmith, with Life Maid Heavenly.

Rebecca partners with the national nonprofit Cleaning for a Reason to donate the two-hour cleaning sessions.

“Both my parents passed away from cancer and at young ages. My father was 56 and my mother was 66, so I just know how that touched my life," said Gunningsmith. “I would encourage other cleaning companies to definitely partner with them, so that we can help more cancer patients.”

“You can help people, and it just makes people feel good and that just trickles down to the people who work for you, the people who might need help," said Lazinsky.

Rebecca has even had some patients call her that she can’t help because they are outside her coverage area. If your cleaning company wants to help more patients, or you want to request a cleaning, head to the Cleaning for a Reason website.
