Construction crews continue to install new lighting on a section of Interstate 690.

Questions were raised about lighting in the area after Syracuse University Coach Jim Boeheim was involved in a deadly crash in 2019. Boeheim accidently struck and killed 51-year-old Jorge Jimenez, who was standing beside a vehicle.

The lighting project is more than half complete.

On Wednesday, crews were working on the highway between the Midler Avenue and Thompson Road exits.

The lights are designed to make it easier to see on the roadway at night and during bad weather.

The state is installing 164 poles, with 26 of them containing two light arms.

Lighting is considered part of the ongoing Thompson Road Bridge project.
