New COVID variants have public health experts concerned. Other than the delta variant that's accounting for many of the new infection rates, there's also a new one that was first discovered in Brazil, which has made its way to the U.S., including New York.

The “P-1” variant is more contagious than previous strains of the virus.

In Brazil, people who have recovered from COVID-19 are becoming reinjected with the new strain.

It has been shown to be resistant to antibody therapies, according to researchers.

“It's the variant that's had the most issue, potentially interacting with vaccines the variant that has had some more serious consequences as an outcome,” Dr. Iahn Gonsenhauser, from the OSU Wexner Medical Center, said.

Right now, doctors say they're looking into how vaccines react to this strain. They say current data shows it has responded very well to vaccines in preventing serious illness and death.
