Both the Democratic and Republican parties have two candidates looking to challenge current Syracuse Mayor, independent Ben Walsh.

On the Republican side, there's Janet Burman and Thomas Babilon. It's been 20 years since Syracuse had a Republican Mayor.

For the Democrats, two common councilors are facing off. Khalid Bey and Michael Greene are looking to bring their party back to the top spot.

With a limited number of races, there will only be 4 polling sites open.

While these primaries do not normally draw huge turnouts, there is one trend that is beginning to develop.

"We are at a brisk pace for requests. We have more requests than we had four years ago during the 2017 mayoral primaries, so, more people are voting by absentee now that it is more permissive than it was, but we are not seeing the 13,000 requests that we got last year during this time," Dustin Czarny, Onondaga County elections commissioner, said.

Earlier this week, Spectrum News 1 hosted exclusive debates with the mayoral candidates.
