The city of Oswego has decided to cancel Harborfest for the second year in a row. Organizers say it would be too hard to screen people or limit crowd capacity, but Mayor Barlow does have some good news.

While the city is also cancelling the Fourth of July parade, they are throwing an Independence Day Downtown Block Party with fireworks on July 4.

The fireworks will be launched from the railroad pedestrian bridge over the Oswego River, with numerous viewing areas available to spread people out. There will also be a free concert, a traveling magician and some bounce houses and other outdoor activities for kids.

The open container ordinance will be temporarily lifted to allow alcoholic beverages, and several downtown restaurants will expand available outdoor dining space.
