It may sound like a great idea, but a local animal shelter is warning parents against adopting bunnies for Easter.

Hollow Bunny Bed and Breakfast actually shuts down its adoptions for the two weeks leading up to Easter.

They say pet stores that sell rabbits this time of year are doing more harm than good, and in a few months, her organization will see an influx of animals that people suddenly realize are more work than they signed up for leading up to the holiday.

"Almost half the bunnies that come here are because people got a bunny on a whim. They got an 8-week-old bunny on a whim, and so now they’re going ‘oh well, it’s no fun anymore’ at three months old. They are not Easter bunnies. You wouldn't buy your kid a reindeer for Christmas. Don't buy them a bunny for Easter," said Hunter Hollow Director Annie-Laurie Hunter.

Hunter says if you do adopt, make sure the bunny is spayed or neutered. You don't want to be stuck with a whole litter of babies down the road.
