The city of Syracuse is pursuing a few ways to take legal action against the Skyline Apartments. It comes after an elderly woman was murdered there earlier this week.

Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh says the complex is in terrible condition and has a long history of crime.

Spectrum News is told a number of complaints led the city to do a surprise inspection last month, where officials found human feces and drug paraphernalia inside the building.

After that inspection, Walsh called the owners to express his concern, but he says nothing has changed.

In the wake of 93-year-old Connie Tuori's murder, the city is considering removing the owner from managing the property.

"To what extent these problems related to the homicide, we may never know. The reality is for Connie and for everyone else that lives in that property, the owners have not done their duty for the people that live there. And they deserve better," Mayor Walsh said.

Walsh says the city can't literally take the building from the owners, but they could be removed from managing it, which would allow someone else to take over.
