A new pop up lounge at the Syracuse Airport is available this week for passengers getting ready to board a flight.
The Lounge at SYR, which is being operated by a few Cornell graduate students, allows passengers to pay $25 to get locally produced drinks and snacks. Through March 6, once passengers go through security they can find the lounge in Concourse A.
The airport is conducting a trial with this pop-up lounge this week, and it's hopeful it may become a permanent fixture for passengers in the coming months.
For a $25 charge from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., you can go in a private suite to enjoy unlimited snacks and beverages. Options include everything from crackers with Ithaca Hummus to beers and wines from local distilleries.
The all-inclusive lounge is being run by Cornell students Gabe Trumbo and David Nguyen. Trumbo said he got the idea after noticing this type of lounge was only available in larger airports in the U.S. They'd like even more feedback from passengers.
"This lounge is $25 and you get beer, wine, champagne, a bunch of snacks; you can eat and drink as much as you want, and hang out in a little bit more of a upscaled environment," said The Lounge at SYR Co-Founder Gabe Trumbo.
"If this is something that you want here in the Syracuse area, please come, vote with your feet, if you're flying over the next week or so. Come in, stop by and have a drink. Just enjoy your time before the flight," said The Lounge at SYR Business Partner David Nguyen.
Several non-alcoholic beverage options are available as well. There are also discounts available to priority pass members and frequent flyers.
Trumbo is the CEO of Matte Black Airport Lounges, which is the start-up company operating the Syracuse Airport lounge.
The start-up won a $25,000 grant in the Cornell Hospitality Business Plan Competition, which is helping the group operate.
