Nationwide pharmacy chains also have a limited supply of the vaccine and are taking appointments for those aged 65 and older.

Spectrum News spoke with a Pharmacy Society of Rochester member who says pharmacies are ready with additional staff.

You’re urged to check online with your specific pharmacy.

Pharmacies are also working up individual plans on what to do if there are any unused doses.

"We are trying to avoid wasting any vaccine at this point because they’re so many people that are available. So, what pharmacies are doing at this point, and per state guidance, they are supposed to reach out to someone that is just as eligible as that person that was supposed to be coming in. So, at this point, pharmacies, if they have leftovers, they're looking at their 65 and up patients and it's really just random who gets called," Kaleigh Gregory, a Pharmacy Society of Rochester member, said.

CVS Pharmacy also says it’s up to individual pharmacies to figure out the best method of getting those doses into the arms of eligible people.

That can include wait list for people who get their prescriptions filled at specific locations.

It’s also possible your pharmacy could reach out to you. You’re encouraged to consult your pharmacist about their policy.
