Governor Andrew Cuomo gave more guidance Monday for people with underlying health conditions who will be eligible for the vaccine starting next Monday.
Using CDC guidelines to make the determination, those people will be able to start signing up for appointments on Sunday.
Cuomo says it will be up to local health departments to figure out how, where, and when to schedule the vaccination appointments.
He also says there will be a validation process in place to make sure the person is actually eligible. Information will be entered into a local validation system, which the state will then audit.
"People will need to bring a doctor's letter, or medical information that evidences that they have this comorbidity, or they now sign a certification when they get the vaccination. They'd have to certify that they have a comorbidity. Those three options are all available. We'll leave it to the local health department to determine what exact validation they want," Cuomo said.
Gov. Cuomo cautioned that with a total of 10 million New Yorkers now eligible and a lack of supply, people need to be patient.
