Early Thursday morning, the Kashou family knew things weren't looking good.

"We were monitoring it and it was kind of a slow realization but at the same time, when it came to a point we realized it was not going to make it, it was a roller coaster of emotions through the night to say the least," said Nicole Kashou, Greater Binghamton Sports Complex general manager.

Around 5 a.m. Thursday morning, the sports complex collapsed due to the heavy snow coming down. Thankfully no one was inside.

It took the Kashou family several hours to even get to the complex to assess the damage due to the historic snowfall.

"There was an 18 wheeler and like six other cars stuck in the snow. I don't even know how or when those people are going to get back to their cars, but the snow has been insane," said Renee Kashou, Greater Binghamton Sports Complex director of marketing and sales.

The family plans to rebuild. But right now, maybe the thing that hurts most is community members who can no longer use the facility this winter.

"I know a family that their eleven year-old son, she told him about the dome with what happened and she told me he bawled his eyes out. He said that's where I play, especially in times of COVID," Nicole said.

But the community has gathered around the Kashou family.

Needing $120,000 before insurance kicks in, there's a GoFundMe page with plenty of donations already.

"We've received an overwhelming amount of support from the community thank goodness. Binghamton has the biggest and best heart honestly, everyone has so many great things to say and offer their support in countless ways," said Renee.
