Law enforcement officers and state representatives in the Mohawk Valley are calling for an end to bail reform.

Republican Assemblyman John Salka introduced his new bill yesterday, looking to repeal the current law and get rid of cash bail.

Members of law enforcement say their jobs are getting more difficult because certain criminals know they'll be released with just an appearance ticket, so they don't care about the consequences.

Officers also wish they could have given some input before the bail reform law was passed.

"Please listen to us. It's not a political issue here. We're pleading with you to repeal this and to help us out in law enforcement and to help the citizens of New York State so that us in law enforcement can do our job and keep people safe," said Madison County Sheriff Todd Hood.

Salka is the bill's sponsor and he is up for re-election next month. He's facing two challengers: Democrat Dan Buttermann, and Libertarian Jacob Cornell. Corey Mosher from the Working Families Party will appear on the ballot, but is not actively campaigning, rather supporting Buttermann in this race.
