Democratic Representative Anthony Brindisi says he's pushing for an amendment to increase the COPS Grant by $350 million.

This move would double funding for a police hiring program in Utica.

"Many of our departments are strapped because of crisis in many of our municipalities, and the last thing that we want to see is money being taken away from law enforcement that they can use to help implement community policing programs," said Brindisi (D-NY, 22nd District).

His opponent in the upcoming congressional race, Republican Claudia Tenney, criticized the bill as a political stunt that won't go anywhere.

She has also criticized Brindisi's vote for the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, saying parts of that bill do not support law enforcement.
