A Cazenovia man has been arrested following a 23 hour standoff with police.

Police were called to a home on Carriage Lane for a report of a man who violated a court order.

When they arrived, officers say 38-year-old Cyril Gatewood had knives, threw hatchets and locked himself in his home.

Police say despite multiple violent threats by Gatewood, no one got hurt and Gatewood peacefully surrendered Friday afternoon.

“He also wanted to harm himself, but he did not want himself to the harming, he wanted us to do the harming. With that, Kudos to the all the officers and agencies here for their patience and sticking through it to see it to a successful conclusion,” that Cazenovia Police Chief Michael Hayes.

Gatewood faces criminal contempt, burglary, and criminal possesion of a weapon charges.

More than a dozen other agencies helped Cazenovia police during the standoff.
