You may not know his name, but you’ve heard his voice on the streets of Syracuse.

“This is what democracy looks like” is just one of the many chants Hasahn Bloodworth projects as he leads the "Last Chance for Change" protesters.

“That’s my favorite chant,” said Bloodworth. “It’s a diverse group, and everyone has a say.”

For more than three weeks, Bloodworth has been the man behind the microphone, guiding the protesters as they call for police reform.

“Last Chance for Change. We’re not the revolution, we’re the evolution,” said Bloodworth.

Bloodworth was born and raised on the city's south side, where he said he experienced police brutality and violence first-hand.

Now, with four children of his own, he doesn’t want them to share those same memories.

“As a father, I need to step up, along with the rest of the fathers out here in the community,” said Bloodworth. “We all need to step up.”

Putting one foot in front of the other, Bloodworth feels the group is making a difference in the community.

“I’m inspiring people, and as long as I’m inspiring somebody, that just gives me the willingness to do it again,” said Bloodworth.

But Bloodworth has been walking with a heavy heart recently. His cousin, Chennal Price-Green, was stabbed to death at the Syracuse Community Health Center after she and another woman argued about social distancing.

Price-Green was laid to rest Wednesday. She was also part of the movement.

“I feel like she would have wanted me to keep going,” said Bloodworth. “She would have wanted me to keep pushing. She would have been cheering me on.”

He also knows friends and family who attended the Rye Day party where nine people were injured after a shooting last weekend.

“It’s disappointing and it hurts, especially when it goes on in your community,” said Bloodworth. “You just have to be part of the solution and not part of the problem.”

They’re striving to put an end to all of the violence one step at a time.

“I hope everyone can come together as one — one fist, one band, one sound,” said Bloodworth.
