It's an old trend that's making a comeback in this era of COVID-19 – drive-in movies.

  • Arlington Aces usually hosts barn weddings, but now they're projecting movies.

  • 5,000 people were interested, but only 106 tickets were handed out.

  • There's no cost in going, but they suggest a $15 donation.

While places like the Finger Lakes Drive-In in Auburn have been around for decades, some less traditional venues are now getting into the game such as Arlington Acres.

“Everybody’s been cooped up inside, waiting for the nice weather and now that things are starting to open up we are providing an opportunity for families to get out and enjoy a safe way to entertain, “ said Katie Jerome, the owner of Arlington Acres.

She posted the event recently and the response was overwhelming.

“We sold out within a half hour,” she said.

Arlington Acres in LaFayette usually hosts barn weddings and other events. Since they can't hosts weddings right now, they decided to start a drive-in movie night. With more than 5,000 people interested, only 106 tickets were given out.

“We are not charging a ticket price we are asking for suggested donation of $15 a car,” she said.

A projection screen will be thrown on the barn door come May 23.

“I’ve got a sponsor who built the addition on our barn and they are going to build a screen for us,” she said.

If people get the munchies, they have solutions.

“People are welcome to bring their own food. But we will have a food truck here,” she said.

All while also putting safety first.

“We want to make sure people are staying in their cars. We have a plan for parking and how cars are going to be spaced out,” she said.

If everything goes smoothly Jerome is hoping to set up more shows.
