Some neighbors are on edge, after a recent string of tire and rim thefts throughout Onondaga County.

"I was surprised because I didn't expect it in this neighborhood," said Wilhelmina Johnson, a Norstar Apartments tenant.

The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office spokesman says they're investigating 6 incidents that happened two weekends ago.

Three of them were at Norstar apartments in Clay.

"We're really concerned about it,” said Suresh Tangudri, a Norstar Apartments tenant. “And the more concerning thing is the community is not notified with the information."

The apartments' property manager Lorie Eastman says they sent out a flyer roughly two days after the thefts, but tenants say they should have been notified immediately.

"Safety and security should be the first priority always,” said Tangudri. “We as residents want to have a safe environment."

"It took a few days because we didn't know about the incidents right away,” said Eastman. “As soon as we did, we notified the residents."

Eastman held a meeting Monday to speak with residents about their concerns and prevention strategies.

"We're working on cameras, especially in the front entrance. It's a one way; you have to go in and out the same entrance,” said Eastman. “We're also looking into an off-duty police officer to patrol maybe in the evenings and the weekends."

Tenants like the idea of increased security, but want managers to have meetings to update them on their progress.

"There are some measurements we can take here,” said Tangudri. “We can do our part if we're informed about it and we're ready for that."

"Be more precautious and be aware of your surroundings, and work together to solve the problem,” said Eastman.

Eastman says if this happens again, tenants will be notified immediately and not just by flyers, but potentially an email or a text.

Eastman says police are patrolling the property as the investigation continues.
